Google brings age estimation to Canadian accounts
Google Canada announced on September 14 that a gradual rollout will begin in coming days. Search and YouTube activity inform age estimates, which trigger protections including restrictions on adult-only Play apps.
The US announcement of July 2025 establishes the earlier method. The new development is its Canadian expansion.
The research question is practical: how many adults are misclassified, how well can they correct the decision, and what happens while a challenge is unresolved? The Canadian announcement describes correction methods, including ID and selfie options, but supplies no measured Canadian error or appeal-success rates.
This is a company rollout announcement. It does not establish that every Canadian must submit identification, or that the rollout has finished.
