A funding bridge into communications

AI Safety Tactical Opportunities Fund

A pooled AI-safety fund managed by JueYan Zhang, with publicly visible support for media and other projects.

Upstream contribution and management

Tallinn records $786,994 to Vanguard Charitable for account A2003126, AISTOF, on 27 November 2024. Zhang’s biography describes the pooled multi-donor fund he runs.

Two visible media routes

Frame names AISTOF as a lead funder and asserts funder independence over selection and content. AISTOF’s public account separately records $41,162 for Trazzi’s SB-1047 documentary. Specific grants and editorial conditions must be examined separately.

New evidence and its limits

Frame recipient page reports USD 280,000 for its first cohort, plus a separate hidden-amount AISTOF record; neither reveals donor selection powers.

From the investigation

Jaan Tallinn: funding and the division of labor in AI politics

A further route connects pooled grantmaking with creators. On 27 November 2024, Tallinn's ledger records $786,994 through SFF to Vanguard Charitable, designated for account A2003126, the AI Safety Tactical Opportunities Fund. JueYan Zhang is publicly identified as running that pooled multi-donor fund. Frame's public FAQ names it as a lead funder, alongside the Long Term Future Fund. Frame describes both independent creators and an organization-amplifier track working to briefs. It also says funders have no role in fellow selection or editorial content. The grant agreement and particular downstream allocation were not obtained.
