NAAG Policy Letter Process — May 2026

NAAG's May 2026 Policy Letter Process describes how a proposed joint letter is sponsored, circulated, authenticated and distributed. It is a documented coordination procedure, not a source of legislative or judicial authority.

Sponsorship, signatures and distribution

A proposal needs at least two Democratic and two Republican sponsors, a draft and colleague letter, named contacts, and a deadline at least ten business days ahead. Authorised offices confirm or reject participation and provide identifying staff information. Any edit requires recirculation and voids prior signatures. At thirty-six signatory states, NAAG supplies letterhead and coordinated distribution; below that threshold sponsors disseminate a signed letter themselves. This May 2026 version does not establish the actual August 2025 workflow.
