Staged transfer of selection participation into regular grantmaking
DFF's participatory grant-selection process began as an October 2024 proposal to replace the expert-panel stage for pre-litigation recommendations. A later retrospective reports expanded selections and board adoption of the process in March 2026.
The 8 October 2024 call initially left litigation-track grants under the existing process, describing broader participation as future work. DFF later reports one round of ten peers selecting three pre-litigation projects and another of seventeen selecting thirteen projects across both types. Its retrospective says the board ended the pilot by adopting the process in March 2026. The original board resolution and a complete allocation of retained legal authority were not acquired.
