Intermediary between platform rules and identity or payment checks
k-ID
k-ID supplies age-assurance services used in Discord’s verification process. Its role is to connect platform requirements to particular checking methods, including identity authentication through Veratad and a credit-card route through Stripe.
The providers behind each method
Discord and k-ID documentation identify Veratad in the identity-document authentication path. A separately documented k-ID credit-card method uses Stripe; Discord describes its own card route as a limited test. The facial-estimation route has a different processing account, described by Discord as on-device. Those distinctions matter for what information is collected and by whom. A refunded card transaction, by itself, says nothing about deletion of records held by the participating services.
Company documentation names k-ID; the processing path differs by method. UK-specific July 2026 page also names k-ID; facial estimation described as on-device and ID route separate.
Discord: feature gates rather than account-wide identity entry
The UK-specific help page updated28July2026 names k-ID and describes age checks to unblur flagged media, access age-restricted spaces and change certain settings, including MessageRequests. It says those declining retain account, DMs, voice, friends and servers, with the stated restrictions. It describes on-device facial estimation, document checks and a GoogleWallet test; methods are not interchangeable disclosures. This refines existing Discord/k-ID/Wallet edges rather than inventing another deployment. Its privacy and deletion statements are company claims, not tested properties.
Retain these findings as a sourced intake pending the next atlas content revision. Highest-priority new node: ICMEC, with distinct financial-programme donor, legislative-sponsor and technical-proposal relationships. New infrastructure nodes include Windows age-signaling, k-ID, Veratad, Google Wallet and IDScan.net/VeriScan. Never connect IDScan to Discord without a separate source. Priority questions concern programme earmarks, drafting provenance, provider admission, credential refusal/correction, retention and deletion duties. No public release or automated restart occurred.
Read discord-age-assurance-verification-2026-09-08.md for the separately sourced review. Discord's August 10 primary methods page names k-ID/Veratad for document checks, k-ID/Stripe for the credit-card experiment and Google Wallet for an age-group/country signal. Credit and Wallet routes remain labelled limited tests; this pass found no official September 8 global-launch confirmation. The October 2025 age-appeals support incident concerns a different custody path and must not be assigned to those verification providers. These are vendor relationships and distinct rollout states, not evidence that Stripe directs Discord policy.
