Connects AI suppliers to government operations
Palantir builds software that puts data analysis and AI into government and commercial workflows. It is a consequential meeting point between the companies producing models, the cloud providers hosting them, and public agencies buying operational capability.
Palantir’s importance comes from implementation. A government does not acquire a working intelligence or defense system simply by buying access to a language model. It needs software, data integration and an environment approved for the task. Palantir helps assemble those pieces, giving it a practical position between model makers and government customers.
Its announced partnerships bring Azure OpenAI services through Microsoft and Claude through AWS-supported government infrastructure into that environment. In the first half of 2026, government customers supplied 52% of Palantir’s revenue. The Army’s enterprise agreement provides up to $10 billion of purchasing capacity over as many as ten years; actual orders are what turn that capacity into business. September 2026 TITAN production orders allocated $127 million to Palantir and $65 million to Anduril.
Inside the company, Alex Karp, Peter Thiel and Stephen Cohen retain a powerful collective voting arrangement. Class F shares generally bring the specified founder voting bloc to 49.999999%, subject to the ownership threshold. Matching instructions from at least two founders determine how the bloc votes. That gives the founders durable influence even as the company sells shares to the public.
The relationship with the state runs both ways. Palantir gets a large market and a role inside important workflows; agencies retain purchasing, appropriation and termination powers. The 2026 dispute over Anthropic’s defense use makes this bargaining especially visible: model suppliers, integrators and government customers can want different limits on the same technology.
