Leaders setting political direction and requesting ministerial follow-through

G7 heads of state and government

The G7 heads of state and government issued a separate call on a safer digital space for minors on 17 June 2026. This leaders' instrument follows the digital ministers' principles and is distinct from both that ministerial agreement and the privacy authorities' later statement.

The June call

The call includes age assurance for conversational AI while preserving national frameworks; references to under-18s do not create a universal rule that every service is adults-only. It asks digital ministers to meet regularly and assess progress by the end of 2026. The retained record establishes the request and policy commitment, rather than a completed review or a shared enforcement mechanism.
