Contested legislative vehicle connecting safety advocacy with rights and encryption concerns
This subject tracks the EU child-sexual-abuse legislative proposal as discussed in the retained 2022–23 advocacy records. It is the object of both WeProtect Secretariat support and rights/security objections, rather than a claim about the proposal's present legislative status.
July 2022 WeProtect board minutes record plans for accessible advocacy material. A separate Secretariat submission supports detection obligations and safeguards while stating that it need not represent all members. WeProtect's accounts report targeted engagement and ECLAG-letter work following its 2023 survey. A September 2023 statement endorsed by Statewatch opposed agreement without stronger rights and security safeguards, objecting to broad scanning and potential identity requirements. These are different dated interventions, not a shared final vote.
