Connecting advocacy organizations with parliamentary drafting and negotiation
Beeban Kidron founded 5Rights Foundation and serves in the UK House of Lords. Her work connects NGO campaigning with legislative negotiation: she has pressed for children's design protections, worked on age-assurance provisions and supported proposals restricting advanced AI.
Beeban Kidron occupies two important positions in this investigation: founder and declared chair of 5Rights Foundation, and member of the UK House of Lords. The California record shows her operating across borders. In August 2022 she wrote to legislators Anthony Portantino and Henry Stern about the proposed Age-Appropriate Design Code. Her UK influence is also visible in the legislative record. In July 2023 Lord Parkinson credited her work on age-assurance principles and thanked her for months of collaboration. She co-sponsored Amendment 124, which was agreed. She also tabled a privacy addition addressing purpose restrictions, deletion and secure storage; that separate amendment was not moved. The distinction captures a legislator negotiating both access controls and limits on the data collected to operate them.
