Investment capital joined to policy and electoral spending
a16z Capital Management
Andreessen Horowitz, known as a16z, finances technology companies and organizes political support for the markets they need. Its AI, crypto and defense interests connect startup investment to campaigns over regulation, infrastructure and government purchasing.
a16z is a venture-capital manager operating under the legal name AH Capital Management LLC. Its investments span AI models, compute financing, crypto and defense technology. In January 2026 it announced more than $15 billion raised across funds, including infrastructure, growth and American Dynamism. Its scale allows it to support both companies and the wider conditions in which those companies do business.
OpenAI identified a16z as a co-lead of its March 2026 financing. The firm also backed compute-financing company Volta and participated with Founders Fund in an Anduril funding round. These investments connect software capability to the capital, physical infrastructure and customers needed to deploy it.
The firm’s policy requests are specific. Its March 2025 submission to the White House sought federal preemption of state restrictions on model development, continued enforcement against harmful uses, and investment in compute and talent. Its defense-reform campaign promotes acquisition and workforce changes relevant to venture-backed suppliers. Its crypto arm has also announced substantial support for Fairshake and associated political committees. Two FEC-recorded contributions to Leading the Future total $50 million across August 2025 and February 2026.
a16z presents this activity as a defense of technological progress and startup competition. Its commercial interest is equally clear: investment returns depend partly on whether companies can build, scale and sell. Partnerships can cross the lines drawn in public rhetoric—Andreessen and Horowitz coauthored an AI-for-startups policy statement with Microsoft’s leaders.
AIN’s original launch names a16z as a partner. This establishes a declared advocacy relationship, not a contribution amount or control of the newly reported House caucus. The historical partnership was newly inspected September 14.
