Max Winga is ControlAI’s Creator Outreach & Systems Lead, with a background in engineering physics and AI research. Winga’s documented background includes engineering physics at the University of Illinois and AI research at Conjecture. The AI Treaty signatory biography describes a 2024 engineering-physics qualification with highest honours, while the university’s Selvin Lab lists him among its alumni. That history gives context to his movement from technical work into advocacy.
He has explained the move in his own words. In a July 2025 ControlAI podcast, he said he expected dangerous AI systems to arrive before adequate technical solutions and argued that governments needed to intervene. In the same discussion he directed UK and US viewers toward tools for contacting their representatives. The sequence is revealing: a technical assessment becomes a political conclusion, then an action the audience is asked to take.
ControlAI now identifies him as its creator-outreach and systems lead. Frame’s past-mentor biography describes communications and partnership work and names SciShow and Rational Animations. Fellowship mentoring, support for creators and relationships with established channels can enlarge the reach of a campaign without its staff having to build every audience themselves.
Winga coauthored ControlAI’s September 8 account of its creator outreach with Andrea Miotti. The organization identified itself behind Sabine Hossenfelder’s reported approach while contesting her description of the editorial conditions. His profile therefore reaches beyond a job title: he is a named participant in the practical process that first brought this investigation into view.

No donor role, legal control, budget size, individual compensation, contract-signing authority or Conjecture-to-ControlAI money transfer was established. His work is relevant to how messages are produced and distributed, while the underlying financial control remains a separate question.
